Friends of the Florence Museum
The Woman’s Museum Auxiliary was organized in 1954 and served for many years as the primary support organization for the museum. Setting the standard for involvement in museum activities, this organization was the precursor to the Friends of the Florence Museum.
In 1976, the Friends of the Florence Museum were organized to assist the museum’s director for opening receptions and related museum activities. The group was formally incorporated as the Friends of the Florence Museum as a South Carolina Nonprofit corporation. For 30 years, the Friends have played a vital role in the museum serving as docents, event coordinators and organizing fundraising activities.
In honor of their 30th anniversary, the Friends of the Florence Museum published the Party Palette, a cookbook featuring recipes, historical information and works of art. The Party Palette can be purchased by calling the Florence Museum.
