The Pee Dee Regional Art Competition is the longest
running art competition in the state of South Carolina and is
committed to showcasing the best contemporary art in the
Pee Dee region. Of approximately 220 submissions, this
year's exhibit is composed of 50 works of art selected by
judge,
Beth Grabowski, Professor and Assistant Chair of
UNC Department of Art, Chapel Hill. The entries were
chosen from submissions by native Pee Dee artists and
range in approach from printmaking and oil painting to mixed
media collage and found object sculpture.
When asked how this year's entries stood out
amongst past competitions, museum curator Stephen
Motte responded, "After the first delivery day for
submissions it was apparent that the quality and scale of
the work had grown: more ambitious art, more confident
artists. It's going to be an impressive show. There are
also a few artists for whom this year is their first time
getting into the Regional, which is an encouraging sign for
them and for us."

Since 2000 Chick-fil-A has partnered with the Florence
Museum to underwrite a major art competition. Chick-fil-A
is a committed supporter of the arts and culture in the Pee
Dee and stands as a positive example of how area
businesses can enhance the quality of life in the region.
